The best way to handle unpermed ("duped") items are to leave them exactly how you recieve them. This FAQ isn't meant to explain the reason why things poof but we can try to explain the best way to prevent it.
The most common way something poofs is because a user either fails to temp perm an item or they do not understand they cannot mix items. Lets say you see 20 x 3 max / 20 attack rating / 20 life small charms for sale or trade. You want them for your paladin or amazon perhaps. You grab them right up and throw them on and you temp perm. Everything is OK at this point just how it should be. Later on you see 20 more for sale/trade and decide to upgrade to 40 or 37x. This is where problems begin.
Being an average person you purchase your additional 20 x block of 3/20/20s and start throwing them on your character who has 20 from prior. You temp perm and load up your duel game only to notice you only have 20 instead of 40. This is the problem, and I'll try to explain it.
You see, when things are duped they are duped repeatidly. Lets think of it like a chicken laying eggs. Every egg on your farm comes from your same 1 chicken. Every set of dupes also comes from the same original set (ie the chicken). Unfortuantly for us, we cannot mix today's eggs with yesterdays or they will dissappear (only we don't get the full feeling in our stomachs but rather now you're pissed off you lost your money). So basically you need to keep in your head that any dupe/unperm item you buy needs to be isolated. You want 40 x 3/20/20s then you need to buy them that way.
Now you might be wondering how come one time you had 3 or 4 jah runes and threw 5 more on there and it was fine. Well, okay, lets give you the reason. Chances are that you had the 3-4 jahs which had different ID codes than the next 5 you put on there. If you're dealing with sets of 40 runes (just for ease) and you buy 80 jahs you are not getting 80 jahs you are getting 2 sets of the same 40. Put them together and 40 poof. Has it happened to you before? Probably, and now you now why. But what if you buy 40 jahs and 40 bers ? Sure, you can mix these because they're different rune types; however it'd not be wise of someone to throw additional jah or ber on the same mule after putting the two groups together.
Let uses a better example, one that you might encounter in our shop. Lets take 15 resist all 9 strength jewels for example. They are 100% unperm/duped/whatever floats your boat, and we even mark them that way. You want 2 or 3 of them for your character so you buy that many. We issue your mule and it contains 3 characters, each one containing only 1 jewel. Now as we made clear above you should LEAVE THEM LIKE THAT and NEVER mix them. I don't care if you want to have 2 less mules to deal with because I'm sure you care you actually get to use the 3 instead of one, right? So leave them alone until you are ready to socket them. Now, if you plan to socket them at the same time then by all means load all 3 in to a game but understand if you attempt to leave with all 3 on the same character (as regular jewels, if you socketed them then you're fine) 2 will poof. Why? You know why, come on think .... every 15/9 jewel is created off the same 15/9 jewel therefore even if you buy 20 you're not getting 20 x 15/9 jewels you're getting 20 copies of the same jewel.
The jist of it is you only need to remember that you should NEVER under any circumstance mix unperm items together without expecting a poof. We hope we made it a bit more clear on why things poof and how to handle them. We've dealt with millions of dupes since 2003 and it's very very rare we actually poof anything but we know to LEAVE things HOW we obtain them. Yeah it'd be a lot better and easier if we could just have 2 mules that had 160 x 40ed/15ias jewels but the fact remains it's more like 20 per char so it'd take 8 chars of 20 to get the 160.
If you do not understand still how to handle unpermed items properly please do not purchase them. While we feel bad you lost your money we clearly mark unperm items as unperm and willl have zero sympathy when you ask for replacements or refunds. We lose money doing that. Now if you are mad you lost money which was your own fault how would you feel about losing money due to someone elses (the customers) fault? You'd probably be pretty annoyed so you can see the reason we do not offer refunds/replacements on unpermed items. This FAQ was last updated: May 19th, 2007 @ 08:41 PM |
